Happy New Year Vegheads! You may be expecting me to say, "Let's get the detoxes and cleanses going." Wrong blog, my crunchy friends. I do not believe in juice cleanses, detoxes, sustaining yourself on processed protein powders, or consuming fruit and vegetable juices for seven days straight. My philosophy has and will always will be rooted in EATING real whole foods. I love the positive momentum generated by healthy eating on January 1, but how do you sustain that enthusiasm past the 31st and continue eating and living well into February and beyond? To help you get the year started on a positive and properly nourished note, I will be launching a plant-based, carefully curated meal plan, full of REAL food to get you recalibrated for 2016.

It is officially winter and, just like your diet, your skincare regimen should adjust with the season. I consulted the one and only facialist to the stars, Joanna Vargas, for her DIY hydrating mask and asked her for some winter weather skincare tips.

I rarely bake. When I do, I try and create healthified versions of classic favorites. One of the reasons that I typically do not dabble in the baking department is because I lack control and end up munching away at the finished product - regardless of its level of deliciousness. When contemplating a warm and comforting Christmas morning breakfast that would not be riddled with regret, I settled on one of my personal favorites, banana bread.

I am fresh off co-hosting a fantastic edible gifting event with Middleberg Nutrition. We made spicy nuts, fermented cucumbers for pickles, and infused oils, all while dispelling nutrition myths and discussing how to stay healthy this holiday season. Munchies were provided by Provenance Meals, Woodbridge, and Indie Fresh, and guests received a major swag bag featuring goodies from Brooklyn Roasting Company, Health Warrior, Siggis, Sweetgreen, Simply Gum, Ginny Bakes, and Ball Mason Jars. In the spirt of gifting and giving, I am sharing some of the creative ideas which we discussed in our class. Go the extra mile this holiday season and tell someone you care about to eat their gift!

Pamela Salzman is the type of woman you want for your best friend, surrogate mom, and on call personal chef. She whips up gorgeous concoctions on a daily basis for her family of five as well as with her students in her LA-based cooking classes. Pamela and I first became Instagram friends a while back, and I immediately fell in love with her clean California aesthetic and kitchen practicality. I had the opportunity to meet Pamela during one of her visits to New York City for an appearance on the Today Show. She was even more charming and warm in person. Pamela appears to do it all and does it all with a beautiful smile in place. I was eager to share more about her with the crunchy radish community on the latest installment of Meet the Makers.

You may be expecting me to say skip the booze this season to ward off any unwanted upward increments on the scale, but I am a realist and, like any good Registered Dietitian, I preach moderation. Enter the good ole' Eggnog, typically so naughty and loaded with cream, sugar, and booze - definitely a NO GO. To meet my festive revelers more than half way, I offer you the not-so-naughty nog. A vegan spin on a decadent classic that leaves you satisfied, minus the hangover and sugar rush.

From latke fests, cookie swaps, office parties to Christmas gatherings and family functions, most people's will power and clean eating plans take a beating. I fully and whole heartily support conscious indulgences as there was NO way I would say no to a slice of homemade bourbon pecan pie this Thanksgiving. I also endorse keeping it clean and controlled as much as you can. This super clean, green, crunchy salad will allow you to stay on track while keeping up with your party hopping schedule.
