In celebration of my little g's 92nd birthday, my family and I descended upon Chicago. We had little more than 48 hours. Our mission: To eat the best we could and to see as many sites as possible. Mission status: Accomplished. For my complete radish recs head on over to the travel section.

summer salad series + zesty corn salad

August 13, 2015 Miranda Hammer

Nothing is more synonymous with summer than corn...well maybe tomatoes or peaches? Corn and summer always seem to go hand in hand. I always get giddy when corn starts popping up at the greenmarket, and this season was no exception. Although I to try use fresh produce creatively, there truly is nothing better than simply grilled corn on the cob with a little butter and a touch of salt.

August 12, 2015 Miranda Hammer

Last week was well spent in upstate New York's Hudson Valley. In celebration of my mother-in-law's birthday, we stayed in a lakeside house, cooked loads of local goodies, visited nearby farms, and drank plenty of rosé. Here are some snaps from our little getaway in the Hudson Valley.

zucchini and cherry tomato frittata

August 7, 2015 Miranda Hammer

Are you on the continual pursuit for convenient and simple breakfasts? Then this frittata is for you. Loaded with protein and vegetables, a frittata is the perfect "make ahead" dish that can be enjoyed warm, cold, or at room temperature. A frittata also serves as the perfect vehicle to utilize any leftover vegetables. Here summer fresh tomatoes and zucchini are featured, but most vegetables would work well. Impress a crowd at a weekend brunch or simply make for yourself and repurpose for a few meals throughout the week.

arugula + zucchini quesadilla

August 5, 2015 Miranda Hammer

I developed this quesadilla during my continual pursuit to utilize my CSA loot in the most viable, nutritious, and interesting manner. Quesadilla's are typically not the most nourishing dish, but this healthified version will leave you feeling light and virtuous. Loaded with almost raw zucchini and arugula, pickled onion, and fiery jalapeño, this is a super simple dish that is perfect for a weekday night.

vegan cashew lime cheesecake + walnut cookie crust

August 3, 2015 Miranda Hammer

Nothing says decadent dessert quite like cheesecake. It's rich and creamy and, in most scenarios, there is not one nutritious thing about it. Enter the cashew cheesecake - perfect for nondairy eaters as well as those looking for a more virtuous spin on a classic dessert.

turmeric ginger lime + peach smoothie

August 2, 2015 Miranda Hammer

This feel good smoothie is loaded to the brim with immune boosters and anti-inflammatory properties thanks to superpower roots turmeric and ginger. Turmeric contains powerful anti-inflammatory abilities which is mainly attributed to curcumin, the compound in turmeric most cited for its medicinal potency.

peach + blueberry crumble

July 27, 2015 Miranda Hammer

I am by no means a baker - I like to leave that to the pros. In the summer when fruit is pure magic and little to no sugar or "extras" are needed, I break out of my anti-baking mentality. This crumble is what I like to call "baby baking" or "baking light". Precise measurements are not 100 percent required, and the ingredients are adaptable, depending on what fruit you happen to have on hand or what is in season.

Morocco was an experience for all the senses. It was gritty and potent and sticky and flavorful - all tangled up in an adventurous holiday. We traveled to North Africa for one week in June and ate our way through Fes, Marrakesh, and the High Atlas Mountains.
