Radish to the Rescue: Potent Party Starter

February 10, 2015 Miranda Hammer

The husband and I have a ritual where we do not dine out on Valentine's Day. Maybe it is the countless years of working in the service industry, pockmarked with overpriced prix fixes and catering to cranky couples who feel like they MUST dine out on the 14th, that just makes me want to stay in. Instead, we typically grab a great bottle of sparkling and provision a few special ingredients to elevate our evening meal.

The series is back and culminating with a powerhouse duo.  These last two superfoods are more of the lesser-known variety and may only be popular in super "crunchy" circles. Cacao and goji berries should not be overlooked both possess unique and beneficial attributes.

We spent the last unofficial week of summer in Maine. We have visited a few times before but, this was our first trip with Jack in tow. Maine is one of my favorite places to visit because it emanates quintessential New England charm with its beautiful coastlines, fabulous seafood, and welcoming communities.

radish recs: golden door spa and resort

This has been a busy summer for me filled with some amazing travel, fun work opportunities, and prepping for the incoming addition of #babyradish. I also had the incredible opportunity to attend the cooking school at the Golden Door Spa and Resort outside Escondido, California in early August for some personal development paired with some R and R. The few days that I spent at the Golden Door allowed me some major relaxation partnered with my favorite past time - cooking!

The Golden Door experience is completely tailored to each guest's needs, from dietary requests, spa treatments, and workouts - everyone's visit is 100% unique. The primary purpose of my stay was to improve upon my culinary skills and to learn new techniques around building flavor and texture using vegetable-forward ingredients without sacrificing the nutritional quality of the food. Although the main incentive of my visit was for the cooking school, that didn't mean that I couldn't indulge in all of the glory that the Golden Door has to offer.

Radish Recs: Nantucket

Nantucket will forever be our special place, as I know it is for many people. When I first visited sixteen years ago, I was immediately awe struck by the magic and pure unadulterated beauty of the island. The unforgiving “New Englandness” of it all and its upscale Americanism that truly rain supreme. Our transcendent tour guides, Emily and Jack, were present throughout our brief little trip, and we are forever grateful to them for guiding us in the most perfect directions. We spent a little under three days on the Island but, as always, it was well fueled by fantastic and memorable eats. Here are my Radish Recs: Nantucket
