crunchy radish clean up: chickpea + kale soup

January 1, 2018 Miranda Hammer
IMG_0334.JPG

Soup is all I want to eat when it is THIS cold. Not the thin, light, and airy kind, but the hearty, rich, and deeply nourishing variety which warms and soothes every part of you. This soup will satisfy your need for comfort in a bowl that we all crave in winter. Not only is this soup delicious, but it is also loaded with immune boosting properties from turmeric, cumin, and carrots which give your body that extra nudge of defense. Chickpeas add protein and texture and create a meal that wraps your belly in a blanket of wellness and warmth.

Miso soup is deceivingly simple. It can come together in under 10 minutes and is a great elixir to keep in your cooking repertoire. Miso soup is the ideal remedy when you are craving something nourishing and grounding. It is also perfect for when you need a little pick-me-up, when you are starting to feel the onset of a cold, or when you are just plain run down. When purchasing miso, make sure that it is organic, refrigerated, and of high quality. Miso is fermented and contains active probiotic cultures, which contribute to its healing and immune boosting qualities.

spice up your winter - crunchy radish mulled wine

As the holidays approach,  I know that I’m not alone in finding my list of to-dos growing rather than shrinking.  Between office and school parties, gift shopping and wrapping, dinner and drinks with friends, hosting your own festive gathering may seem like a chore.  I’m exhausted just thinking about all there is to do, so I’m having a very minimalist moment -  from packing suitcases to decorating, simplicity is key.  Small touches can go a long way.

A nice mulled wine is an easy treat that can be made with items which you may already have in your fruit basket, on your spice rack, and in your wine cellar (or, in my case, at the bottom of a closet).

sweet potato + carrot latkes

December 11, 2017 Miranda Hammer
IMG_0218.JPG

Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights, when family and friends gather together, light candles, spin the dreidel, and nibble on latkes, jelly doughnuts, and chocolate gelt. Like most holidays, food takes center stage and is a prominent fixture of this cultural celebration. Most families are bound to a signature latke recipe, which has been passed down through the generations. If you are looking to switch it up and veer away from traditional russet potato latkes, consider this vibrant sweet potato and carrot alternative.
