some things are better on toast

May 18, 2015 Miranda Hammer

Some things are just better on toast. Avocado mash, chocolate hazelnut spread, ricotta and honey to name a few, but this pea and mint pesto just may take the cake. Fresh or thawed peas, mint, and lemon shine in this perfect-for-spring pesto. For all of you non-bread people out there, this pesto works wonders with crudités, quinoa, whole grain pasta, dolloped over salads or served on top roasted vegetables.

cinco series - always leave room for dessert

May 2, 2015 Miranda Hammer

I teamed up with my friends at Whole Foods Market NYC to bring you The Crunchy Radish Cinco Series, a healthier take on a festive holiday.

We always like to leave room for dessert, especially when it is a salad. In typical Crunchy Radish fashion, we make our sweet treats as healthful and simple as possible. End your Cinco celebration on a sweet and nutritious note with creamy mango, zesty lime, mint, and crunchy toasted coconut fruit salad.

This is What My Weekend Tasted Like: Silent City Slicker Edition

August 26, 2014 Miranda Hammer

There is something to be said for the tranquility that cloaks the city during the last month of summer. Some may feel like “the leftovers”- left behind while the “others” leave in droves, a mass exodus to the various summer retreats.  I typically find solace and comfort in the quiet and serenity of it all. It’s the feeling that somehow you are in on a little secret - that the city, which at times succumbs to lunacy and  haste, has a softer and more mellow side. It is during the fleeting month that I find myself sauntering into a typically packed and popular restaurant at 8 p.m. on a Saturday night or get lost among the townhouses of the West Village without the droves of tourists trailing at my heels.

A Soup For Summer: Watermelon Gazpacho

August 4, 2014 Miranda Hammer

Adequate hydration is essential for optimal wellness. The ideal source of hydration comes from clean and simple H2O. Not only does water quench your thirst, it is involved in a myriad of essential bodily functions. Water helps ensure luminous skin, flushes toxins from the body, and carries nutrients to and from the cells.

Just Peachy

August 14, 2013 Miranda
IMG_2917.JPG

Peaches have been an abundant staple in my CSA loot these past few weeks. In order to preserve the life of some of the stone fruit that were about to cross over to the "other side", I decided to utilize them in a different manner than mixed with my Ezekiel cereal or Siggis at breakfast. Sure, I could have gone down the salsa or galette route but, when surveying the cheese department one afternoon, I knew what had to be done. Grilled peaches served as a flavorful catalyst for this summertime salad indulgence. Why do I consider this salad an indulgence? Solely because it was tossed with torn, creamy morsels of burrata. Hey, everyone has their vices; and mine typically fall in the stinky and fermented category.
