This past weekend was spent celebrating my Lil’ G's 91st birthday. We opted for the North Fork for our revelries - the perfect combination of liquid libations, tranquility, and fabulous local eats.
Based in Sag Harbor, we hopped two ferries across the Peconic River to begin our celebrations. Noah's in Greenport was our lunching fuel. There we slurped briny oysters and indulged in crispy stuffed zucchini blossoms, sweet lobster rolls, and buttery crudo. From there we ventured to Lenz Winery and Lieb Cellars Tasting Room, the latter being our preferred fermented beverage outpost where we got giddy over the crispy summer white Merlot.
Dinner was one for the books. Three courses of delicious, seasonal, and sensational eats at North Fork Table and Inn. I have been patiently waiting to go to this temple of locavorism for some time, and my patience was well rewarded. From the warm focaccia to the silky smooth house smoked salmon nestled atop a corn blini, accompanied by horseradish cream, to the silence-inducing sweet corn ice cream and cornmeal blueberry financier, we were one happy and well- satiated crew.
Always one for balance, I made sure to sandwich my indulgences with a run into town to fetch the ultimate bran muffin from Provisions in Sag Harbor and found focus and tranquility on Sunday morning at Yoga Shanti. Between delicious meals out, we equalized our spurges with a bounty of local and seasonal simply prepared veg-centric meals.
Wishing the littlest of G’s a very Happy Birthday! Here’s to years more of celebrations, complete with memorable meals, fermented beverages, and perfect company.
