This is What my Weekend Tasted Like- So Festive

A very happy Monday to you Vegheads. Holiday festivities are in full swing and practicing the art of moderation and balance never seemed more critical then it does now. The past few weeks have been inundated with festive meals, from birthday celebrations, to travel, and a multitude of holiday gatherings.  Like most people, I am confronted with that inner dilemma, wanting to indulge and embrace all the deliciousness of the season, but knowing how indulgence after indulgence can affect me on the inside and out. There is nothing worse than feeling hung over from a few too many tequila sodas or so bloated that you can hardly manage to squeeze your contacts in. Keeping the ramifications of over-indulging in mind, I stay motivated to remain on track, especially when I take a detour or too. From bopping around the greenmarket to a decadent brunch at the Rainbow Room to bone broth and plenty of green juice fixes, this is what my weekend tasted like.

This time of year can be tricky for even the most virtuous. Social and familial gatherings, where we are perpetually inundated with "un-virtuous" eats, can pose quite a challenge. I am all about balance, having some indulgences (Yes, I had many bites of pie.), yet using each morning to start the day anew. Despite this mentality, I have to admit that the next six weeks are riddled with obstacles.

I frolicked about in my hood with my four legged friend, took in some culture at the Met, was inspired and enlightened at a workshop, and checked out a new food hall in the Meatpacking district. It’s not vacation, it’s a trip! So much caffeine, so many tomatoes,  so many smiles (and some tears- mainly from me) and a lot of happy memories.

Love @smittenkitchen roasted tomatoes and beans. I’ve been making them weekly. Added kale cooked down in bean broth to make them extra extra. Used @rancho_gordo corona beans in your honor @taliack
A few good things that I ate this week.

Some recent mealtime wins which will make it into the dinnertime rotation. The current theme this round - zucchini and feta.

A few good things I’ve made recently.

Good day for dilly bean stew with cabbage and frizzled onions. Love this vinegary, buttery, creamy combo. Used limas cooked from dried and it was extra extra. Recipe from @alisoneroman stay cozy friends.
Hitting all the right spots on a cold snowy day. @jj__mc mushroom and wild rice soup with potatoes and dill. Swapped sour cream in place of heavy cream and really leaned into all the Eastern European vibes in this recipe. Warm and cozy. Recipe from #
