This is What my Weekend Tasted Like- So FULL

December 1, 2014 Miranda Hammer

This time of year can be tricky for even the most virtuous. Social and familial gatherings, where we are perpetually inundated with "un-virtuous" eats, can pose quite a challenge. I am all about balance, having some indulgences (Yes, I had many bites of pie.), yet using each morning to start the day anew. Despite this mentality, I have to admit that the next six weeks are riddled with obstacles. This past weekend we had TWO Thanksgivings and kicked off my birthday festivities. To optimize balance, I have been extra vigilant about my workouts, taking no days off. Whether I am Refining , spinning, running, or taking the dog on extra long and fast-paced walks, I make sure that I am moving in a challenging manner everyday. For all meals that are un-celebratory, I am also being a little more strict and maintaining as much "cleanliness" as possible. Maybe I won't add that teaspoon of maple syrup to my morning oats or I will forgo that second glass of wine or swap out cheese in my salad for lemon juice and avocado. Staying optimally hydrated is also something that I am placing a priority on, especially while dining out or at social gatherings. I am typically the type that likes to have a beverage on hand at a party or a function but, by choosing water or seltzer over wine or tequila, I am making a simple, conscious effort to counteract the "extras" that add up during the holidays.

Two Thanksgivings and the kick off of my Birthday Cele, this is what my weekend tasted like:

Burbon chocolate pecan, salted caramel apple, and sweet potato and pumpkin ginger pie

Burbon chocolate pecan, salted caramel apple, and sweet potato and pumpkin ginger pie

My mother-in-law made sure that all the vegheads were well taken care of and killed the pie game with these beauts.

Before heading uptown to see This is Our Youth, I had a fantastic meal at The Smile. Fresh crusty bread, garlicky olives, and innovative and flavorful dips created the perfect pre-theater supper. Looking forward to coming back for breakfast.

Meal prepped with a variation on My New Roots granola recipe. I added dried lemon peel, cinnamon, and raw cacao powder to Sarah B's base. It was fantastic.

Ended the weekend by popping off my Birthday Celebrations with a pizza filled dinner at GG's. The triple clam with ricotta and mozzarella was my favorite.

Of course there was plenty of green juice, kettle bells, and spin peppered throughout. Hope you all had a fantastic holiday weekend! Here is to a healthy week ahead!
