Although it has been a frosty start, it is officially spring and, just like your diet, your skincare regimen should adjust with the season. I consulted the one and only facialist to the stars, Joanna Vargas, for her DIY matcha scrub and asked her for some spring weather skincare tips.
To promote fresh and glow-worthy spring skin, Vargas suggests:
Spring time is a great time to increase your exfoliation to twice weekly instead of once. With the environment becoming less dry. it's important to make sure you are sloughing off the dead cells and surface dirt in order to maximize the results of your products.
I encourage all of my clients to switch their moisture step a little. Using a lighter formula is important for spring, so you don't start breaking out or over treating the skin.
With the weather/temperature being cold one day and warm the next, it's important for the skin to feel like you are giving it balance. I would rinse my face in chamomile tea at least once a week for soothing.
A great DIY treatment is my matcha scrub. It oxygenates, soothes, and hydrates.
Joanna Vargas' homemade matcha scrub
- 1 tsp matcha powder
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 3 tbsps brown sugar
- 1 tbsp honey
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Apply a thin layer to the face and scrub gently. Rinse off with warm water.
The matcha scrub is great for face and body. The high content of antioxidants in matcha will make the skin vibrant while the honey hydrates, the coconut soothes, and the brown sugar exfoliates very gently.
Thank you Joanna Vargas for the fantastic tips! I can't wait to get scrubbing.
