Radish Recs: NYC

February 15, 2017 Miranda Hammer

As a born and bred New Yorker, I can confidently say that I have a strong understanding of the dining scene in New York City. I have acquired a balanced palate that can appreciate both fine dining establishments as well as rustic and simple cafes and dives that pepper the boroughs. This is an evolving list that will continue to expand exponentially as I continue my ever-growing appreciation of the New York City restaurant scene. Not everything listed is super “crunchy” and healthy; as I do enjoy dining out, even if it does not have health and wellness in mind.

Having worked as a hostess, bartender, and server for over five years in my somewhat formative period, I have acquired an innate understanding of how well-oiled restaurants run. I appreciate the attention to detail from the moment you enter to the time that you leave, the synchronicity of staff, the knowledge of a server, and the coordination from kitchen to table.

a very crunchy radish wedding: part ii

September 13, 2016 Miranda Hammer

It has taken me a year to finally share our wedding here on Crunchy Radish and our one year anniversary seemed like the perfect time to do so. A part of the delay had to do with the post-wedding blues - yes they really do exist, and I struggled for some time to be able to look back and reflect on the special day. The rest of it had to do with the desire or lack there of to share the intimacy of our celebration and carefully tread the line of private vs shared. I hope our pictures bring you inspiration and a smile, as they now do for me.

A Very Crunchy Radish Wedding: Part I

July 12, 2016 Miranda Hammer

For our wedding, we knew we wanted to transport people out of the urban environs of the city. We wanted water, we wanted green, we wanted elegance and, like any couple looking for the perfect backdrop for their "I do's", it becomes a mission. We found the perfect setting that encompassed all our wants at White Gate Farm in East Lyme, Connecticut. The farm and the surrounding areas offered so much beauty, relaxation, and association to food, we were sold. Our incredible die-hard, coordinator Josh Chalmers of Earth 2 Events, made every one of our visions a reality...but more on that later.

Most people have their scent. Whether you are a musk person, gardenia, or lavender, there are specific aromas that draw you in.  On a recent outing to one of my go-to markets, I discovered that they carried my favorite soap.  I excitedly waved the soap in front my friend's nose, he quickly responded that it smelled like me. If rosemary and patchouli is my essence, I will gladly take it.  Saipua Saltwater Rosemary and Patchouli Soap is woody and natural, yet subtle all at once. Crushed sea salt and nori add just the right amount of exfoliating texture, and high quality olive oil makes it luxuriously moisturizing.  I often get regretful tearing open the beautiful packaging and putting the soap to use, no longer allowing the wrapped bar's essence to permeate my medicine cabinet. Saipua is known for their gorgeous wild and romantic floral arrangements, but their handcrafted, local (for New Yorkers), cold pressed olive oil based soaps are pretty epic too. All of the soaps are hand made, hand cut, and hand wrapped and are made of food grade oils and butters - making them almost good enough to eat.

Currently Coveting

January 12, 2016 Miranda Hammer

I hate to use the term loosely, but when I say addicted, I truly mean it. Addicted in the sense that the anticipation and excitement builds and bubbles as I start thinking about opening the bottle and inhaling. I get giddy and euphoric post-administration, and pangs of regret and remorse overwhelm me on frantic mornings when I forget to use. No, I am not currently coveting an illegal substance of some sort. I am talking about my current obsession, my face oil. Juno Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil by Sunday Riley is the topical equivalent to my superfood sprinkle. Juno is a powerhouse blend of nutrients delivered right where you need it. This oil is light and non-clogging and leaves you glowing all day long.  Ingredients like carrot oil and berry seed blend surge antioxidants into the skin - fighting wrinkles, balancing skin tone, and infusing vitamins skin deep. Now that the secret is out, everyone will be itching for a fix.

Recently, I have been getting a lot of compliments about my glow. Yes, the summer heat may have a thing or two to do with it, but I started integrating some new products into my daily regimen which has had some major benefits. Odacite and Moon Juice collaborated on a dynamic duo of products (yes, dreams do come true) that produce glow-worthy results. I start with a refreshing spritz of aloe and rose mist and then add 2-3 drops of the clair de lune serum into my daily spf moisturizer. The serum is loaded with super glowy and anti-oxidant rich ingredients like carrot seed oil and green tea. To complete the look, I turn to natural beauty fav RMS beauty for a pop of mineral-rich color on my cheeks.  I use the lip2cheek stain in beloved, and a touch more glow from cult favorite living luminizer.  How are you getting glowy this summer?
