The time for gifting and giving is here! What better way to show someone you love them then with a thoughtful and personalized gift or donation! Here is the annual crunchy radish holiday gift guide.
If you want to give the gift of a donation:
I stay away from politics here on crunchy radish but, with the approaching new administration, my thoughts are consumed with how I can make a difference and protect the things that matter the most to me. This year I am opting to give and receive gifts in charity donation form to organizations that protect the environment, women's rights, and animals. I am donating to organizations which provide nutritional services and education to those in need as well as to organizations that serve to preserve and protect the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States. Here are my charity selections, but the options are endless.
The Central Park Conservancy - Central Park is my happy place. Find your favorite park and donate to preserve a space that connects you with nature.
World Wildlife Fund - Symbolically adopt your favorite endangered species or simply make a donation to wild animals in danger of extinction and efforts to protect their habitats. I "built my own adoption bucket" and selected 3 animals to protect which comes with plush animals that I can now gift to my little niece. Win Win!
The Sylvia Center is a New York City-based organization that educates children and their families about the importance of eating and preparing healthy foods with hands on learning experiences in the kitchen and on the farm.
Planned Parenthood - Support women's right's and access to reproductive health care with a donation to planned parenthood.
The Humane Society - As a huge animal lover, supporting an organization that fights animal cruelties such as puppy mills, factory farming, and wildlife trade is a priority on my list. You can support your state chapter or even adopt an animal in need.
Natural Resources Defense Council - Make a donation to protect the future of the planet. The NRDC works to protect the earth, people, plants, and animals by creating solutions for lasting environmental change, and to encourage the preservation of natural resources in the United States and across the globe.
The Environmental Working Group - This a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting human health and the environment. They have created extremely valuable resources such as the The Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 lists, which provide information on the least and most pesticide-laden produce. The Skin Deep Guide grades beauty products on the amount of chemicals that they contain as well as how they can affect both your health and the environment.
American Civil Liberties Union - Helps to protect your rights and the rights of your friends, family, and co-workers. The ACLU works to defend and preserve the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States.
Sierra Club Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club is now the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization -- with more than two million members and supporters. Sierra Club successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness to helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. More recently, they've made history by leading the charge to move away from the dirty fossil fuels that cause climate disruption and toward a clean energy economy.
